Parenting Support
Our Commitment to Evidence-Based Practice

At FACES, we are committed to delivering parenting and family support that is informed by research, evidence, and recognised best practice. We believe that families achieve the best outcomes when support is based on proven approaches that strengthen parent-child relationships, promote healthy child development, and build parental confidence.

To ensure the quality and effectiveness of our services, we use evidence-based programmes that have been shown to make a positive difference to children and families. Two key programmes that underpin our work are Parents as First Teachers (PAFT) and PEEP.

PAFT

PAFT is an internationally recognised, evidence-based programme founded on the principle that parents are their child's first and most influential educators. The programme supports parents to understand their child's development, build positive relationships, and create meaningful learning opportunities through everyday interactions.

Through structured guidance, developmental information, and practical activities, PAFT helps parents develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to support their child's learning and wellbeing from the earliest years. The programme promotes healthy development, strengthens family relationships, and supports children's readiness for school and lifelong learning.

PEEP

PEEP is an evidence-based programme that helps parents and carers support their children's learning and development through everyday activities such as talking, singing, sharing books, storytelling, and play. The programme recognises that parents and carers have a crucial role in shaping children's early experiences and future outcomes. The effectiveness of PEEP has been independently evaluated by researchers at the Universities of Oxford, Queen's Belfast, and Warwick. These studies have shown that PEEP:

• Helps children develop strong foundations for language, literacy, and self-esteem, improving outcomes for all children, with the greatest impact on those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

• Successfully engages families in their children's learning and development.

• Increases parents' understanding of child development and how they can support it at home.

• Builds confidence in both parents and children as learners and can contribute to improved parental employability.

• Enables practitioners from a wide range of professional backgrounds to develop new skills and approaches that help unlock parents' potential and strengthen family learning.

Our practitioners are trained to deliver the programmes using structured guidance, developmental information, and practical activities that help parents develop confidence and skills. The programmes focus on promoting children's learning, development, wellbeing, and school readiness while strengthening family relationships. By embedding evidence-based practice throughout our work, we ensure that families receive support that is compassionate, effective, and proven to make a positive difference in children's lives.

Our Impact: January – March 2026

During the first quarter of 2026, FACES continued to provide vital support to families across our community. Between January and March, 328 families received personalised one-to-one support, with a further 302 families accessing additional support services, ensuring that parents and carers received the guidance they needed to help their children thrive.

The positive impact of our work is reflected in the outcomes reported by families:

These results demonstrate how our evidence-based parenting programmes and family support services help build parental confidence, strengthen family relationships, and improve outcomes for children. By supporting parents with the knowledge, skills, and encouragement they need, we are helping families create strong foundations for their children's future success.
